DIY Bug Repellent

Tis the season for spending time outdoors! When gathering with friends and family this Spring and Summer remember to protect yourself from mosquitoes and other insects. Hub City Co-op has all the ingredients you need to prepare your own all natural bug repellent.

DIY Bug Repellent Recipe


4oz Spray Bottle

2oz Witch Hazel

2oz Filtered Water

20-30 total drops of essential oils (you can use a blend of any of the suggested oils below)


Mix together all ingredients in bottle and spray on exposed skin: legs, neck, ears, and arms. Be careful to avoid your eyes and any broken skin. This recipe is designed to be safe for children. Consult your physician if you have any questions or worry about possible reactions to these oils.

Essential oils that are commonly used for mosquito repellent:

·         Citronella

·         Lemongrass

·         Geranium

·         Clove

·         Lemon

·         Eucalyptus

·         Basil

You can also use the same recipe for Tick and Flea Repellent. Just change up the essential oils you use.

Ticks and Fleas:

·         Thyme

·         Grapefruit

·         Oregano

·         Cedarwood

·         Tea Tree
